DLTC Winter League 2010

Week Commencing 1st March 2010

Wicklow Tennis Club has two teams remaining in the Dublin Lawn Tennis Council Winter League after three teams completed their games on Sunday last.  The men's 4th team playing in class 7 travelled to Naas and lost out narrowly in the play offs for a place in the quarter finals.  The ladies 1st team enjoyed a great victory of a 3-0 win over Stackallen TC in the class 2 play offs and the ladies 2nd team playing in class 3 did battle with Greystones 3rd team and were unfortunate to lose 1-2.
So both the ladies 1st team and the men's 1st team now advance to the quarter finals on Sunday next 7th March.  The men will play either Mt. Pleasant or Naas at home at 11.00am and the ladies will play Carrickmines away at 2.00pm.
Well done to all the players and super subs who represented the club to date in this league and best of luck to the teams for Sunday.

DLTC Senior League 2009

The DLTC Senior League commenced on Sunday 30th August.  Each of the four teams were victorious in their first games.

Sunday 18th October 2009

Wicklow Tennis Club had one team competing in the finals of the Dublin Lawn Tennis Council Senior League last Sunday.  The club's men's 1st team traveled up to Clontarf Tennis Club to play Trim in the class 3 finals.  When you reach a finals there is no doubt that the games are going to be very competitive.  The no 3 paring of captain John Sexton & Eamonn Dillon managed to come through easily enough in two sets but the same could not be said for their team mates.  No 1 pairing of Joe Fallover and James Gormley had very tight games all the way and despite several match points they were defeated.  It was all down to the no 2 pairing of Simon Kelly & Clyde Wynne, who similarly to James and Joe had three very close sets and a couple of match points but were unable to hold off the stronger Trim pairing.  So, hard luck to the team, they gave it their all but it was not to be on this occasion.  However, they have gained promotion to class 2 for next year

Sunday 4th October 2009

As we near the end of the Dublin Lawn Tennis Council Senior League, two teams have progressed to quarter final and semi final stage.  On Sunday morning last the men's first team playing in class 3 traveled up to Stackallan in Co. Meath and enjoyed a 2-1 win and will now play Castleknock's 1st team at home on Sunday next.  The men's second team playing in class 4 came up against a very strong 1st team from Portmarknock at home in the last 16 and will not be advancing to the quarter finals.  The ladies first team played the last of their round robin matches at home to Sandycove and secured three vital points which will hopefully see them remain in class one next year.  Meanwhile, the ladies 2nd team playing in class 5 headed up to Mt. Pleasant TC and won 2-1 and they will now play Naas away in the quarter finals on Sunday next at 2.00pm.  Well done to all the players and subs and best of luck to the men's 1st team and ladies 2nd team on Sunday.

Sunday 27th September 2009

Three of the four teams participating in the Dublin Lawn Tennis Council Senior League last Sunday came away with top points.  This means that each of these teams will advance to either play off stage or quarter finals.
The men's first team playing in class 3 were at home to Donnybrook and enjoyed a 3-0 win.  They will now play in the quarter finals next Sunday, venue to be confirmed.  The men's second team playing in class 4 traveled to De Vesci and enjoyed a 3-0 win and they will play in the last sixteen next Sunday, venue to be confirmed.  The ladies first team playing in class one have been unlucky in this campaign.  They were unfortunate to lose 3-0 to Naas on Sunday but have one match in hand against Sandycove next week.  The ladies second team playing in class 5 were at home to Westwood Leopardstown and enjoyed a 3-0 victory that sees them advancing to the last sixteen next Sunday, venue to be confirmed. So, overall great results and best of luck to all the teams next Sunday and as always many thanks to the subs

Sunday 20th September 2009

The Dublin Lawn Tennis Council Senior League continued for the four teams representing Wicklow Tennis Club last Sunday. The men's first team traveled up to Glenageary TC where they were beaten 2-1, despite losing two points they are still joint leaders with Glenageary going into the final of the round robin matches in class 3 at home to Donnybrook next Sunday.  The men's second team were at home to Co. Wicklow LTC and continued on their winning streak.  They won the maximum three points leaving them in pole position for their final round robin game next Sunday against De Vesci in class 4.
The ladies first team playing in class 1 were also at home.  They played against a very strong Donnybrook TC team losing 3-0.  However, they still have two matches to go and hopefully will have better luck when they travel to Naas next Sunday.  The second team headed south to Arklow TC and had some super games.  They came away with one point leaving both themselves and Arklow on the same points as they head into their final round robin  games next Sunday. Thanks to the subs and best of luck to all four teams on Sunday next.

Sunday 13th September 2009

It was three out of three last Sunday for the teams representing Wicklow Tennis Club in the Dublin Lawn Tennis Council Senior League.  There was no match for the ladies first team due to Inter Provincial games.  The ladies second team playing in class five had a great win at home to Blackrock TC winning the maximum three points.  The men's first team playing in class 3 were also at home to Co. Wicklow TC and enjoyed a 3-0 victory too.  The men's second team playing in class 4 headed up to Shankill TC and they too were victorious winning three points.  All teams are on a good footing heading into their third/fourth round games next Sunday. As always, thanks to the subustitutes and good luck to the all the players next Sunday.

Sunday 6th September 2009.

It was three out of four for the teams playing in the Dublin Lawn Tennis Council Senior League last Sunday.  Both men’s teams, playing at home this week got away with more favorable weather conditions than the ladies by playing their matches in the morning.    The first team playing in class 3 defeated Stratford’s first team 3-0 and the second team playing in class 4 enjoyed a 3-0 victory over Newtown Park’s second team. The ladies first team playing in class 1 traveled up to Deerpark and was very unfortunate to lose 3-0 to their first team but to even things out a bit the ladies 2nd team defeated Deerpark’s 5th team 3-0 at home.  Well done to all the players and subs and best of luck with the games next Sunday.

DLTC Mixed League 2009

Congratulations to the 2nd team who were the winners of the class 3 DLTC Mixed Legue on Friday 14th August.  They beat Malahide 3 in Glenalbyn in a nail biting final.  Well done to the team of Pat Fox & Patricia O'Connor, Glenn Malone & Carol Byrne, Paul Hayes (c) & Denise Kenna and to all those who subbed throughout.

DLTC Summer League 2009

There were two teams representing Wicklow Tennis Club in the Dublin Lawn Tennis Council Summer League last week. On Tuesday 16th June the ladies 2nd team playing in class 4, played host to Meadowvale's ladies 1st team and were very narrowly beaten 2-3. They had reached the last 16 teams in this class and so will remain in class 4 foe next years' summer league. On Saturday 20th June the men's 1st team, playing in class 2 came up against very strong opposition in their quarter final match against Monkstown's 1st team and lost 3-0. They will remain in class 2 next year. All in all it was a good league for the four teams, well done to all the players who represented the club and special thanks to anyone who subbed along the way and to the four captains Grace Fitzsimons, Denise Cahill, Tomás Morrissey and Conor Ruttledge.

Winter League 2009

It was all go last week-end for our three teams in the quarter-finals of the DLTC Winter League.  On Saturday the men's second and third teams started the day off with their matches at 11.00am.  The second team playing in class 4 at home to Shankill  had a great victory leading them into the semi-finals on Sunday.  The men's third team went to Naas and lost out after some very tight games but will be promoted to class 4 for 2009.  Catherine Merrigan and her 2nd team playing in class 3 had great games against Carrickmines at home but were unfortunately beaten as well.
Sunday, and it was all down to Captain James Gormley and his second team who travelled up to Elm Park for 11.00am.  Although the matches were close the score line did not go in Wicklow's favour and they came away with a gracious defeat.
Well done and thank you to all the players and subs who have given up their past five, six and in some cases seven week-ends to represent the club.  Have a well earned rest, the Summer League begins on 8th May!!

Two of the three remaining teams in the DLTC Winter League played their qualifying matches on Sunday last. The men's second team under the captaincy of James Gormley had a comfortable win when they played Meadowvale at home and now proceed to the quarter finals of class 4 when they will come up against either Shankill  at 11.00am on Saturday next at home. John Sexton and his third team travelled to Sandycove and after some very tight games came away with a victory and will travel to Naas to play their quarter final match on Saturday.

Catherine Merrigan and her second team have qualified for the quarter finals of class 3 on Saturday. They will play either Carrickmines at home at 2.00pm. We wish all three teams the best of luck in their games.

The ladies first team played their final match in class one on Sunday afternoon against Carrickmines.  They have come accross some very strong opposition throughout their section and their points attained have no reflection on the tough and very close games they had along the way.  They are one of only twelve clubs who have teams represented in class one.  Well done to Shionnagh, Fiona, Jean, Tina, Caroline and Lorraine and those who subbed over the past five Sunday's.

Congratulation to the men's second team who topped their secion in class 4 of the Winter League.  They now meet Meadowvale's 1st team at home on Sunday 1st March at 11.00am.  Also, the men's third team playing in class 5 have qualified for the last sixteen and will meet Sandycove's 5th team in Sandycove on Sunday 1st March at 11.00am.
The ladies second team have made it to the quarter finals of class 3 and will meet the winner of Carrickmines V Sandycove on Sunday March 7th in Wicklow at 2.00pm.

Well done to all the players and subs who participated over the past five Sundays and best of luck to our three teams still flying the flag for the club.

There was plenty of action on Sunday last for all the players participating in the Dublin Lawn Tennis Council Winter Leagues. The men took to the courts first in the morning. The first team played at home to Monkstown in their class 2 section and were defeated 3-0 which unfortunately means that they will now play in class 3 next year. The second team also playing at home beat Greystones 3-0 which leaves them in top position of their section and they will go on to qualify in the last sixteen teams of class 4. The third team playing in class 5 travelled up to Lansdowne TC and won 2-1 which also leaves them in a strong position for qualifying for the last sixteen. The fourth team playing in class seven travelled up to Monkstown TC and were unfortunate to lose 3-0.

It was the ladies turn in the afternoon. The first team were at home to Lansdowne and lost 3-0, they have one remaining match in their section next week so hopefully they will pick up some points then. The second team were also at home to St. Mary's and had a 3-0 which brings them into qualifying stages too. The third team travelled to Brookfield and won 2-1 and hopefully they will have enough points to remain in class five next year.

Overall, good results for the club. Well done to all the players and subs and best of luck to the teams who have qualified out of their sections in their forthcoming matches.
