The Summer league has just finished up. We had six teams representing the club, with the men fairing off better than the ladies this time round. I will update you with a summary when I have more information, but I do know that the men's second team were unfortunate to lose out in the semi-final of class 4 on Wednesday night to a stronger Elm Park team. Thanks to all the teams and of course the subs who participated.
The Mixed League gets underway on Friday 4th July. We have entered three teams one in each class, 1, 2 and 3. Members are asked to note that these matches will take place on Friday nights from 7.30pm - 9.30pm approx. so courts will be unavailable for the duration of matches. Good luck to all the players, last year our third team one class 3 and are on a mission to regain their title!
AIB Interfirms
The annual AIB interfirms kicks off on Monday night next, 30th June. This year we have 24 teams competing with many newcomers taking part. It will run on Monday to Thursday nights with the early matches commencing at 7.15pm and the later matches at 8.45pm. Hopefully the rain will hold off! Details of the teams and schedules can be seen on the Competitions page of the website.
Introductory Evening
On Monday night last, 23rd June we held an introductory evening for those members who joined the club in 2007 and 2008 and for some who were here a bit longer than that! Club President John Sinnott welcomed everyone, Club Captain Kieran Leggett spoke about all the competitions held throughout the year and coaches Peter Farrell and David Sheehan took everyone out on to the courts for some drills and fun. Everyone enjoyed themselves and we will be holding an organised event if the very near future to follow on from this successful evening. So, if you did not make it down for that hopefully you will make the next event.
Club Clothing
Club Members Michelle Hender-Phillip and Ronnie Phillips are the official suppliers of club clothing to Wicklow Tennis Club. They displayed a great sample of their products last Monday night and got a great response. There was a lot of interest from parents re children's clothing and as a result of this they are going to come down to the club for the first day of each week of the summer camps. They will be here on Monday next 30th June from 1.30pm - 6.00pm. On Monday 14th, 21st and 28th of July they will also be down to display the clothes and accessories( i.e. tennis bags, baseball hats etc). They will be in the club from 10.00am on these dates. If you order something on the Monday they will most likely have it ready for you later that week. Michelle and Ronnie would be delighted to deal with any enquiries and can be contacted on 0404 40685 or 086 8364737 or email: rphillips@eircom.net
Junior Activities
John Brady's summer camps start next Monday. Classes for the first week will be in the afternoon only as some schools are not finishing up until Monday for the summer holidays. Any children that have been enrolled for the camps will be notified of their class time by text the previous week. There are still some vacancies for weeks three commencing Monday 21st July and week four commencing Monday 28th July. If you would like to enroll your child please sign the sheet on the noticeboard in the front hall or you can e-mail me here at the club.
A list of all the daily activities which begin next Tuesday 1st July can be viewed on the Junior page of the website. Our three supervisors, Niall O'Connor, Jack McHugh and Rodhan Haughton look forward to welcoming and working with all our junior members over the coming weeks.
